About

The Second Annual Sphere XO Student Design Challenge represents a collaboration between Sphere, the Clark County School District (CCSD) and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) that gives local students the opportunity to have their work displayed on the Exosphere – the world’s largest LED screen.

Winners Selection

Eight student artists ranging from elementary school through college will be selected via a combination of public voting and artist judging – with four winners chosen by the public vote and four winners selected by a panel of judges, including renowned artists Shepard Fairey and Jen Stark.

Theme

The winning students’ art will debut on the Exosphere on Earth Day – April 22, 2025. The Earth Day theme for this year’s challenge encouraged students to think creatively about the intersection of art, technology, and planet Earth.

Prizes

 Winning CCSD high school and UNLV students will receive a $10,000 educational scholarship from Sphere. CCSD elementary and middle school winners will get a $10,000 donation from Sphere for their school’s art program and tickets for their school to attend The Sphere Experience.

Inaugural XO Student Design Challenge

The inaugural Sphere XO Student Design Challenge in 2024 recognized eight winners from the Clark County School District and UNLV. The winning students, who ranged from grades 5 through UNLV Graduate School, created art inspired by the Fourth of July, which was unveiled on the Exosphere on July 4, 2024.
